How this site handles your data (spoiler: very little).

This site collects very little data. Analytics are cookie-free and fully anonymized. A single session cookie is used to power reactions and comments, but it contains no personal information. Nothing is sold or shared with advertisers.

Analytics

This site uses Plausible Analytics, a lightweight and privacy-focused analytics platform.

Plausible provides simple aggregate statistics such as:

which pages are visited
how many people visit the site
where visitors come from (referrer or country level)

Plausible does not use cookies, does not track individuals, and does not collect personally identifiable information. The data is aggregated and used purely to understand which content people find most useful or interesting.

What This Site Collects

The analytics described above collect only anonymized, aggregated statistics about page visits. No personal profiles are created and no data is sold or shared with advertisers.

Sessions, Reactions & Comments

This site uses a session cookie (nyaa_session) to enable reactions and comments on articles. The session is anonymous and is not linked to any account or login system. It allows the site to remember your reactions and associate comments with a display name you choose.

Display names are unique and claimed on a first-come, first-served basis. You do not need to provide any personal information to pick one.

Email addresses are entirely optional. If you choose to provide one for session recovery (e.g. to reclaim your display name on a new device), the email is hashed using SHA-256 before storage. The raw email is never stored. The hash is used solely to verify ownership when sending a one-time recovery link.

Geographic data: when you visit the site, approximate city-level location data (city, country, and coordinates) is provided automatically by Cloudflare as part of the request metadata. This data is stored alongside your anonymous session and is used to protect the site against malicious activity and to understand where readers are from. Coordinates are rounded to reduce precision, email addresses are optional and hashed if provided, and sessions are not linked to any identity. No personally identifiable information is collected or stored.

Anti-abuse measures: reactions and comments are protected by Cloudflare Turnstile challenges and IP-based rate limiting. IP addresses are hashed before being checked against rate limits and are not stored in plain text or used for tracking.

Local Storage

This site uses localStorage for a single purpose: remembering whether you've seen the homepage animation so it doesn't replay on every visit. This data never leaves your browser.

Third-Party Services

This site is hosted as a static frontend with a lightweight API worker on Cloudflare. External links (GitHub, LinkedIn) are subject to those platforms' own privacy policies. Cloudflare Turnstile is used for bot protection and is subject to Cloudflare's privacy policy.

Tools

The tools on this site run entirely client-side. Any data you input into a tool (JSON, regex patterns, etc.) is processed in your browser and is never transmitted to any server.
